Weg met de vakbond!

"Hand in hand with the corporate struggle for chunks of the new global media market, go negative effects on the social conditions of journalists.

Corporate attacks on trade unions and the rights of journalists now take place, often in a coordinated manner, across the globe. Hostility to organised labour in the information and communication sectors is not new, but companies in the forefront of introducing information technologies and trying to expand the media market worldwide are among the most belligerent of all corporate groups in the face of union activity.

In Germany, for instance, the publisher Gruner & Jahr (a major player in the Bertelsmann group) provoked a strike by editorial and publishing staff in Dresden and sought to eliminate journalists’ rights (those from the former East German region) to participate in a local collective agreement and traditional works council arrangements. In Italy journalists called a national strike over employer intransigence in the negotiation of a new collective contract."
